Should Junk Food Be Banned?
Do you think that junk food should be banned from school vending machines? Schools selling junk food contributes to all of the people that are obese. Junk food should be banned from schools because, first, not eating healthy at a young age can cause permanent damage, second, many people are obese and are becoming obese as well.
First, not eating healthy at a young age can cause permanent damage. When you are young and you are growing how you eats has a huge toll on your health as you get older. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” poor eating habits developed at an early age lead to a lifetime of real health consequences”. Some of the health consequences of poor eating habits are diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Also according to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” school is where children spend most of their time, and it is where we lay the foundation for healthy habits”. If kids are spending the majority of their day in school and schools are selling junk food, but schools should be selling healthy food because that is where the kids are most of the day.
Second, many people are obese and are becoming obese as well. With schools selling junk food that increases the kids chance of becoming obese because they spend most of their day in school. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” sixty million adults (20 percent of the population) are obese. Nearly 300,000 people die each year from complications associated with being obese or overweight”. All of those people that are obese have a chance of getting diabetes and of getting heart disease from obesity. Also according to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” It has always been the role of the government to help solve problems including health issues, obesity. So as a government and as a society we have the responsibility to do all we can to prevent obesity and by promoting healthy foods.
Though it is the students choice of what they want to eat and buy. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food” improving what we teach about nutrition and requiring more physical activity are better ways to approach obesity than imposing statewide junk-food bans. But the students shouldn’t have an option to buy junk food in the first place. Also according to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food” obesity is a health epidemic across our country, and we have a responsibility as a society to do all we can to promote good nutrition and healthy eating”. Which can only be achieved by banning junk food in schools.
In conclusion junk food should be banned from schools because not eating healthy at a young age can cause permanent damage, and many people are obese and are becoming obese as well. When you’re young what you eat has a huge toll on your health as you grow up. And kids spend most of their time at school so that should be the place where kids get healthy nutritious food.
