Saving the Flightless Birds
Did you know that when a devastating oil spill threatens the lives of tens of thousands of penguins that thousands of people come out to the oil spill and volunteer to help? Whenever oil spills threaten the lives of penguins thousands of people come out to help the penguins. Volunteers in these situations have certain things in common that they have to do. They have to clean the penguins, and they have to force feed the penguins.
Volunteers have to clean the penguins. In the article “ The Amazing Penguin Rescue” it says that volunteers have to gently scrub the penguins bodys inch by inch with a toothbrush until the penguins feathers are dry and clean. The volunteers have to clean the penguins until the penguins are clean and dry. Volunteers have to spend hours cleaning the penguins inch by inch with a toothbrush.
Volunteers have to force feed the penguins. In the article “ The Amazing Penguin Rescue” it says,”penguins hunt for sardines, gobbling them up while the fish are still alive and wriggling. [penguins] won’t accept dead fish from human hands, so they must be force fed.” Penguins don’t like that the fish that the humans are feeding them aren't alive, so the humans have to force feed the penguins to get them to eat it. In other words, if the humans don’t force feed the penguins the penguins will die.
In conclusion, Volunteers in these positions have things in common that they have to accomplish. They have to clean the penguins, and they have to feed the penguins by force. This matters because many people think that oil spills cause no harm to the environment and think that humans can’t do anything to help. But according to this essay that is incorrect.
