Help is on the way!!
These poor, poor penguins. Swimming around in oil with their eyes burning, but wait- help is on the way! Thousands of volunteers flock to the beach in South Africa where about 1,300 tons of toxic oil gushed into the water. The poor penguins don’t know what these strange things are or why they are here, but it is to take them to a rescue center. These volunteers are doing whatever they can to save these innocent creatures, it’s their top priority.
On June 23, 2000, a cargo ship suffered some serious damage- and did some damage. The ships hull split apart, and as it was sinking, about 1,300 tons of toxic oil gushed into the water. According to Scope’s “The Amazing Penguin Rescue”, “These men and women understand what you [the penguins] don’t: that this oil spill is a catastrophe for you and your species [the penguins].” That is meaning that these people understand how much damage this can do to the penguins and their species. These people will help save the penguins (and other birds) that are suffering during an oil spill. At the moment that there is an oil spill, the birds are their top priority.
Just a few years before that, on September 1998, an oil spill near Phillip Island in Australia was threatening to harm the little penguins living there. The rescue workers at Phillip Island Nature Park were trying so hard to save these poor birds who were covered in oil. The workers had the craziest idea: sweaters. They immediately got to work knitting sweaters for the penguins. According to Scope’s “Saving Penguins, One Sweater At A Time”, “They’ve saved over 1,000 penguins.” These people made a crazy idea into a way of saving lives. It’s absolutely amazing! They have done so much to help save the penguins. These workers and volunteers all deserve a thank you.
You see, sometimes there are huge problems that can seem overwhelming, or hopeless, but these people have showed that there is always something we can do to help. These people helped save innocent creatures who didn’t know what was going on. They all deserve a whole-hearted thank you. Some amazing people helped those penguins by taking them, cleaning them, helping them recover, and just doing everything they to save those poor penguins. They are true heros.
Good job! Your essay had lots of good and intersecting facts. I like how you put quotes in from the article. I would just put the authors name that wrote, "The Amazing Penguin Rescue" Also, I would chose another word instead of poor to describe the penguins. Beside that it looked perfect to me. Keep up the good work.
