Snow

( March Post )

Beep, beep, beep, beep. The alarm clock by the side of my bed just went off. My eyes are half open and I'm half awake. I throw my hand on the snooze button just one more time. Five minutes later that annoying alarm goes off again. Slowly, I roll out of bed. I feel like ice cream on a hot summer day. As I change for school, there's this chill in the air. I hurry and put a jacket on. I walk downstairs and look out the round window

There are white, clean, perfect snowflakes coming down. The whole neighborhood is filled with them. The trees, roofs, cars, and much more look so white. My mom walks out of her bedroom and tells me school just got canceled. My day just became one thousand times better. I rush to put on warmer clothes, then run outside as fast as I can. The snow falls down fast. I jump into it, making a snow angle. The snow sinks into my clothes, getting them all wet.

The snowflakes dance down my face. Then I feel a wet, cold, white ball splat against my face. My little brothers got me. I hurry to make a snowball to get them back. I throw with all my might. It hits them. Snow comes flying off their backs in all directions. They run. After the battle, we build a snowman. I build the bottom since I'm the oldest. I pick up some snow and form a ball. Then I carefully put in on the ground. I roll it and roll it. The small snowball now is growing. It gets bigger and bigger. Finally, it's just the right size. We stack all of the balls together. It looks perfect. We pick up rocks to form the face. After that, we stand back to look at our work. The snowman has a huge smile and  two rocks for his eyes. We play for hours until our noses are bright red.

After that, we go inside. We take off all our wet slimy clothes. I put on my warm sweats. My skin now feels so much better. I see my mom making something warm. It steams out of the mug. Then she puts marshmallows in. I take a mug. It's like fire burning the ice all off. I take a small sip. The hot chocolate runs down my throat, making me all warm inside. We all sit down and watch our family favorite, "Elf". The lights are dim, and the snow is now falling even faster.

Outside is quite. All you can hear are the birds chirping and the snow coming down. White is everywhere. You can barely see because of the fog. You can smell the fresh air. The snow is cold and wet.

It's night now. I close my eyes. I wish the snow wouldn't melt. The weather report says it's going to be sunny the next day. My eyes are shut and I fall asleep. Beep, beep, beep. I turn off the alarm and jump out of my bed to see if the snow is still there. But it is not. It is back to school for another day.  Yesterday seems like nothing more than a dream.

  1. The way you described the snow was perfect! The only thing that I would suggest, is that you explain what your mom and the rest of your family looks like. You described everything else really well and I enjoyed reading it. Good job!

  3. Very Good! I liked the description of the of the weather and the joyfulness of the story. But, to make it better, I suggest describing the characters and how the characters felt. Overall, amazing job!

  4. Excellent description of, well, everything! The snow, clothes, snowman, cocoa, and especially the family meeting in their family room were just absolutely perfect! I would just suggest a little more background information, but then, no information at all made me use my imagination to describe the kids. SO AMAZING.

  5. Oh how I long for snowy days:) I like the description a lot, it was simple, straightforward and easy to imagine. I'd agree about adding more on the specific characters, but great writing!
