Foxes Continued: Rebekah

The two biggest cubs were squirming around, making small little mewing sounds. The second biggest opened her eyes to reveal a cotton candy blue. Her coat was a light reddish orange color, almost the perfect match of mine. I licked her small body, as she looked around, taking in the fox hole, her new home for the next eight months.
Completely forgetting about the cub that had been stolen; I watched the smallest and youngest of the group, waiting for any signs of survival.
Weeks past until finally, the youngest stirred. Her eyes began to slowly open, to show a chocolate brown she had been hiding. I happily began to lick her, grateful that she was alive. Emerald, the oldest of the bunch began to yip happily, “She’s alive! She’s alive!” Cotton Candy (Candy for short), the second in line shouted with her. I laughed at their jumpy behavior and began to think up of a name.
The youngest was a silver color, with a scarlet ear. After a few days of thinking and scratching out good names, Candy came up with JazzMoon. The name was perfect. We all called her Jazz, for short.
Emerald was the diva cub, who cared about good looks and boys. Candy was the one who cared mostly about other foxes’ feelings and was the soft, gentle one. Jazz was the shy, scared, and quiet one who hid behind me when someone showed up. She never complained, or said pretty much anything in general. She barely ever talked, and the only times I heard her say much was at night, when she would singing herself to sleep in her soft, beautiful voice.

  1. Excellent writing! This is such a unique story with the foxes. I love all the description and beautiful language you use like "singing herself to sleep in her soft, beautiful voice." This would be a great children's book. Keep up the good work. You are diversifying and stretching as an author--it's really awesome to watch. Yep, I used the "a"word, don't tell Manning. ha ha
