“What’s
your power?”
“I’m
fire. I shoot fireballs, I can’t get burned, and I control fire. I can set you
on fire, but you won’t get burned.” Her eyes widened with wonder and
admiration. She looked over at the rest of her friends. “What’s everyone else’s
power?” Looking at my six friends I shrugged and said after a while, “I’ll tell
you later. So Marco, what were you saying before?”
“I
said that very powerful elves have been disappearing. Lavendara, the elf of all
plants, disappeared yesterday morning. So did Oaklic, that weird elf that
controlled how big the trees got. His magic must have not lasted long because
the trees in Big Bear Lake, California have already started to grow at
tremendous speeds and aren’t stopping. Shimmera, the queen of water,
disappeared last Friday and floods are happening all over the world! A huge
flood that started on Saturday in New York is still going. The water’s probably
taller than a three story building.”
“It’s
actually a six story building,” Bree corrected, “Without the queen’s powers to
calm the water, it’s going about six thousand miles per hour. New York is a
very large place that rarely every gets floods, but the tides have been ruined
and are going higher than they should.”
“Where
did you learn this?” Madi asked, staring at Bree in surprise. The twins also
shared her look.
Bree
reached into her backpack, and pulled out her book once more, opening to the
table of contents and running her finger down the page, trying to find a
specific chapter. “Aha!” she said happily, and began flipping the aging pages
of the large book. She stopped at a torn page, ran her finger again down it,
and then shoved the book in Madi’s face.
If Shimmera, the queen of the water, disappears,
waters everywhere could reach speeds up to ten thousand mph,” Madi read,
and then turned to Bree, “You said six thousand miles!”
“Keep
reading!” Bree urged, “And then look at the diagram at the bottom.” Instead of
reading more of the text, Madi looked at the bottom of the page and saw a small
diagram, explaining how fast the water could go in different states. Madi
sighed when she saw that Bree was right.
“Guys,
we better go!” Margo said, looking up from her watch, “We’ve been in the
bathroom way to long. It’s very suspicious.”
I
carefully unlocked the door, and opened it a crack. I could see a couple,
holding hands at a table waiting for their order in a made up straw hut that
was obviously fake. A minute later a guy in a pirate costume came, balancing a
delicious looking cheese pizza on his hand. Other than that, the restaurant was
quiet. I gestured to my friends and we snuck out before anyone noticed us.
So sorry. Forgot the name. It's Chapter 1 Part 4
