The king's jester

 The King's Jester
Once upon a time, there was a jester. He wasn't very funny. Well, he was to the little kids because he made fart jokes. However, the king and queen were above that stuff. One day, the king said," Jester, if you tell me one last fart joke, I will through you in the crocodile pit that I may or may not have in my basement." But, as you know, jesters are not very serious. He told one more fart joke, and the king pulled on a lever, and the jester fell through the floor.

The jester was falling through the floor when he landed in the crocodile pit the king may or may not have. He quickly attracted the attention of the king crocodile, because the crocodiles have been down there so long that they have created a monarchy. "WHO DARES DISRUPT MY MARIO KART!" bellowed the king croc. " Sorry, that was me," stammered the poor, terrified, jester. "YOU ARE LUCKY THAT MY I WON MY MARIO KART GAME!" Shouted the king croc. "OTHERWISE, I WOULD HAVE EATEN YOU ALIVE! HA HA HA!" "Please don't eat me!" cried the jester. "I'll do anything you want!" "WE HAVE BEEN DOWN HERE FOR SUCH A LONG TIME, WE DON'T REMEMBER WHAT HUMAN FLESH TASTES LIKE. WE ONLY GET FED WITH THE OCCASIONAL DRAGON CORPSE." The jester thought for a second. " I can help you with that!"

The king was enjoying his daily walk,  when he would deny the peasants help in their troubles. Suddenly, the giant croc and the jester burst out of the ground in the village. The jester did a front flip off the croc and landed in front of the king. "Ha! You can't imprison the crocodiles anymore!" "No, you fool! The crocodiles were put down there because they ate everybody last time there were outside!" The king said. Then the crocodiles ate them.

Dear Future Grandchildren,       01.16.15
What’s going to be the best part of the future? according to the article, “Welcome to the Future,” by Matthew Hutson, scientists have predicted some theories that the about the future. Of course we don’t know exactly what the future is going to be like. Scientists can only guess. The future will be different mostly because of robots & technology, along with vacationing in outer space.

Robots and technology are one of the main reasons that the future is going to be much different. You might find a robot cleaning your room, or helping you with math homework. But robots can do much more. They can pump gas, build homes, and clean floors. Unfortunately though, Unemployment will be high. Technology will be making devices that we can only dream of.

Currently, vacationing to space sounds crazy. But in the future, it’s highly likely to happen. Not only are we able to visit space, but some people will be living there. Some people will be able to settle on the moon or in orbits of planets. It is highly improbable at the moment, but scientist predict that it could happen.

In conclusion, the future will be much different. From science to technology, and your simple day to day vacations. It will all change and we will be able to do modern day’s “impossible.” The future will be mostly different because of robots & technology, along with vacationing in outer space. Right now we can only guess, but someday it might be possible.

Sincerely, Baylee B Cloward

Saving the Flightless Birds

Did you know that when a devastating oil spill threatens the lives of tens of thousands of penguins that thousands of people come out to the oil spill and volunteer to help? Whenever oil spills threaten the lives of penguins thousands of people come out to help the penguins. Volunteers in these situations have certain things in common that they have to do. They have to clean the penguins, and they have to force feed the penguins.

Volunteers have to clean the penguins. In the article “ The Amazing Penguin Rescue” it says that volunteers have to gently scrub the penguins bodys inch by inch with a toothbrush until the penguins feathers are dry and clean. The volunteers have to clean the penguins until the penguins are clean and dry. Volunteers have to spend hours cleaning the penguins inch by inch with a toothbrush.

Volunteers have to force feed the penguins. In the article “ The Amazing Penguin Rescue” it says,”penguins hunt for sardines, gobbling them up while the fish are still alive and wriggling. [penguins] won’t accept dead fish from human hands, so they must be force fed.” Penguins don’t like that the fish that the humans are feeding them aren't alive, so the humans have to force feed the penguins to get them to eat it. In other words, if the humans don’t force feed the penguins the penguins will die.

In conclusion, Volunteers in these positions have things in common that they have to accomplish. They have to clean the penguins, and they have to feed the penguins by force. This matters because many people think that oil spills cause no harm to the environment and think that humans can’t do anything to help. But according to this essay that is incorrect.

Junk Food Essay - Lucy DeLand - February

Junk Food Essay
What do you consider junk food? It’s not just potato chips and crackers, it’s also pizza, cheeseburgers, and fried chicken fingers - these are all being served in the cafeteria. First of all, students are old enough to make their own choices. Second, if the cafeteria is serving junk food, then why can’t you buy it. But most importantly, It won’t really make a difference because students will just bring snacks from home and eat them at school.
First of all, students from many different schools are old enough to make their own choices. It is a student's decision if they buy chips in a vending machine or not. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food from Schools?”, New Jersey has already banned all school from junk food. But do you think that has made a difference? No, it hasn't, because students will just bring food from home and eat it at school.
Second, the cafeteria serves pizza, fried chicken fingers, and cheeseburgers. Don’t you consider that junk food? Some people only consider chips and candy as junk food, but have you ever thought of food that the cafeteria serves. According to the article “Should Schools ban Soda?”, a little less than half of the school throws away their vegetables but keeps their pizza, cheeseburgers, ex. If students keep doing this, then it will be useless to ban junk food.
Third, there won’t be a difference if we ban junk food. Students have junk food at home that they eat, so they would just bring it to school. According to “Should Schools ban Soda?”, a little more than 85% of the students bring their own sugary drinks from the outside of school. If we banned junk food in our schools, students would bring junk food in their lunch boxes so they can eat it during school. Students can also give it out to their friends so they can have some during school too.
On the other hand, in the past year, people’s eating habits have increased over 20%. The obesity in schools have gone up a lot more than they have a year ago. But most of this happens from cafeteria food, not junk food from vending machines or goodie stores. Students are old enough to make their own choices. If they choose to eat healthy then it is their choice, not yours.

In conclusion, we should keep goodies in our school. Plus if you do ban it, students will start to bring more junk food to school in their lunches. People know how to make their own choices and they will. Also there won’t be any change in our eating habits because students would just bring goodies from home.

Should schools ban junk food?

Did you know that schools around the nation are getting rid of sugary drinks and snacks that are high in fat? School boards around the nation think that soda, snack foods, and high fat lunch food and snacks like chips, soda, and are the cause of childhood obesity, so they are going to replace them with low fat, low carbohydrate, and low sugar merchandise instead. Schools shouldn’t ban unhealthy snacks because one of the most important parts of education is learning how to make good choices, and the cost of healthier lunches for school is higher than the price of what schools pay for less healthy foods.

Learning to make good choices is an important part of education. It is an significant part of education because most of the most important decisions in life are made in school. They are important because there the choices that will ruin your life or enhance it. In the article “Should states ban junk food” it says “An important part of education is learning to make good choices. An across-the-board junk-food ban does not teach young people how to make healthy choices; it simply removes some of their options,”. Learning to make good choices is an important part of education because it affects you throughout your life.

The cost of healthier lunches for schools is more than the cost of less healthier lunches. Less healthier lunches cost less because the unhealthy ingredients in them take longer to go bad. If schools got healthier lunches they would be losing money because healthy go bad in a few weeks because they don’t have any preservatives in them. In the article “New rules make school a junk food-free zone” it says “Sandra Ford, president of the School Nutrition Association and director of food and nutrition services for a school district in Bradenton, Fla., said in prepared testimony that the healthier foods have been expensive and participation has declined since the standards went into effect. She also predicted that her school district could lose $975,000 a year under the new "a la carte" guidelines because they would have to eliminate many of the foods they currently sell.” If schools got healthier lunches the food would go bad faster and it would cost the school extra money.

Although schools will have regular bake sales to try to earn back what they lose for having healthier lunches and the lunch will be healthier for the students and the teachers, but if schools don’t make their lunch healthier, than schools wouldn’t have to have kids do bake sales regularly, and the food won’t go bad as fast. In the article “ New rules make school a junk food-free zone” it says “ That includes snacks sold around the school and foods on the "a la carte" line in cafeterias, which never have been regulated before. The new rules, proposed in February and made final this week, also would allow states to regulate student bake sales.
The rules, required under a child nutrition law passed by Congress in 2010, are part of the government's effort to combat childhood obesity. The rules have the potential to transform what many children eat at school.”

In conclusion, learning how to make gratifying choices is an important part of scholarship, also it will charge the school less money instead of wasting money on food that starts to decompose faster. Schools should not get rid of junk food.

Saving Mr. Penguin

Imagine you're a penguin and you are coming out of the water full of good fish then everything around you is black. It is an oil spill that killed many ecosystems. Some humans took it into their hands to save the penguins and they did. The humans saved the penguins just by trying to be nice, they had to endure many cuts from beaks and also talons. The humans saved many hundreds of penguins.

Many volunteers helped to clean and to get the penguins back to what they had before the oil spill. According to the Amazing Penguin Rescue article “over 40,000 penguins were saved.” 40,000 penguins were saved just because people could not just sit there and watch the penguins die. The Penguins inside of the article were saved by the people that wanted to save them.

Oil spills can kill so many things they are very deadly. Humans saved the penguins just because they were good people. I conclude that the people did a very good thing by saving the penguins from that nasty oil spill. If they did not help the penguins then the penguins would probably die if they did not help.

Accidents #5

  Accidents #5

“Why are you at the hospital?” aunt Rose asked.  You can always expect her to get start to the point.  “I came to see what happened with my parents.”
“Oh goodness, how are they?”
“Mom is fine, just a little injured mainly on her back and face.”
“Well that is a relief and what of your father?” she said clearly relieved that her sister in law was fine.  To her mom basically was a sister.
“I don’t know to be honest, but aunt Rose I am getting seriously tired.  Can you please come get my or send uncle Sean to come get me?”
“Oh my gosh he is the dead one they are talking about isn't he.”  she started blabbering about how they say one ended up dead yada yada.
“Aunt Rose!” I snapped, “As far as I know he is fine and I would prefer to tell you this in person so could you please come pick me up?”
“Sorry, I will be right there, which hospital are you at?”
“Rock-field Foundation Hospital.”
“Okay, I will be right there then we can talk about what happened.”
“Bye aunt Rose.”
“Bye O.C.” she said and with that she hung up.

When I went out of the room, I saw nurse Kay pulling her back in a bun.  I couldn't believe that it was possible for my aunt to cry.  She would rather dangle over a shark pool barely being held by a thread than to show her emotions.  You can see why her and my mother get along so well.  They are both stone hard warriors and would rather face death then surrender on their knees.  Nurse Kay looked through the corner of her eye and saw me exit the room.  “I don’t need to know the answer honey, but if you had a phone why did you need to call from the office?”
“I didn't want people to see me upset like this, also when I talk to my aunt something just   clicks to be annoyed with people."
“Is she coming to get or do you need a ride to her house because I get off in a half hour.”
“Don’t worry Kay she is coming?”
“Just go ahead and sit on a couch in my office, third door right side, I will go get us some snacks.  What would you like?”  Turning to the door Nurse Kay claimed to be her office, I said, “I would like a water to drink at the moment, and maybe something snacky.”  With that nurse Kay nodded and went down the hall a ways to get some food.  Entering her office, I plopped down on the couch and closed my eyes recalling how my day had started.

Usually when I am sad, I listen to music.  Sadly, the happiest song on my phone wouldn't even make me happy.  It kept taking me back to moments with my parents which just made me even more upset.

After about five minutes nurse Kay came in with a bottle of water and some crackers.  She handed to me as she said, “I have to get back to work for a moment, when your aunt arrives I will have another nurse named Sally come and get you, okay?”  I nodded as I drank the water.  I didn't realize how thirsty I had been today.  As nurse Kay left, I laid my head on the couch and tried to go to sleep.  It had been about twenty minutes when I heard a feminine voice roar, “Where is my niece!”
