The Gwate Pengwin Wescue

The Penguin Rescue

Once again, you see that another oil spill has occurred in north Alaska. You try to think of ways that you could help, but know that you would never be able to manage it or raise enough funds to make a difference. Horrible images play by on your television of different sea creatures covered in the black ooze. You see a penguin trying to preen its feathers of the tar-like substance and watch as it chokes on its own feathers. You want to do something about it, but what? Oil spills are killing marine life and damaging ecosystems all over the world. But lucky for us, some brave and courageous volunteers are helping in many ways to save these penguins from oil spills
A recent oil spill occurred near an island in the Atlantic ocean, almost 40,000 African penguins lived on this large glacier-like surface, and all of them were hit by the spill. But almost instantly after the spill had occurred, volunteers flooded the island, picking up any penguin they could find and enduring excruciating bites from the frightened creatures. These penguins were put in cages and taken to a nearby penguin rescue facility that had been set up in an abandoned warehouse. The penguins had to be force fed by humans by subduing them and then shoving fish down its throat. Ointment is also applied to their severely burn eyes and liquid charcoal is pumped to its stomach to help remove the oil that got into its system. Individually, the penguins are taken to a cleaning station after the ointment and charcoal have done their work, and they are scrubbed of all the dried oil that had hardened on their feathers.

Once the cleaning process is complete, the now human-trusting penguin is put in a crate, shipped back to a beach near the island, and they swim home. Over these few weeks the humans have cleaned up all of the oil that washed up on the beach, and much of it that was in the sea has been washed away. These penguins don’t know that they were part of the greatest penguin rescue that has ever occurred, all they know is that they are back home with the rest of their kind, safe.

Bullying: The Evil of the Universe

Bullying

Bullying is a terrible thing, to begin with. It doesn’t help or enlighten others. It doesn’t show a good example. It’s doesn’t even have a good purpose! Bullying, more or less, is a soul wrecker, a happiness destroyer, an ultimate weapon to make people look down on themselves. When people bully, they are slashing other’s self-esteem with a knife, over and over again until the bully finally gains control. To the victim, after a while, life doesn't even matter. What did matter was taken away.

Bullying is a big problem. I mean BIG. But people treat it like an everyday thing. That’s the problem. It is an everyday thing. And it’s ruining kids’  lives. But adults don’t see far enough into the subject to see that they can do something. They can help their kids! But how is always unanswered. Here is the solution: Make their parents pay the consequences.

When you look down into the root of bullying, it always comes down to the parents. They are either the cause of the bullying or they aren’t preventing it. I mean, parents are the sheep herders of the children. They make the decisions of what is right or wrong. But sometimes they don’t pay enough attention to the child and let them do whatever they will without punishment. Maybe fining them will help them see the truth a little better than they had before.

Sometimes the parents cause the bullying. Not all parents are caring. Some physically or mentally abuse their kids. This can lead to the act of bullying at school or in the neighborhood. Bullying doesn’t stop with one person. It keeps going and going and going and going and going, like a chain reaction. So instead of destroying one kid’s potential, parents are destroying hundreds, thousands, of good futures. That’s how serious bullying is. It’s not one person. It’s the world.

I have listed an entire three paragraphs to explain my opinion. But it won’t do anything. It’s only ink. But I know that others can. If they try. But that’s the thing. They don’t. Maybe this new law will help them understand the truth.

January Post

Sorry, the formatting got a bit messed up in some places.

Should Schools Ban Unhealthy Food products
New schools laws in the US suggest banning any food products that do not meet certain food regulations from being distributed. By doing this, the government hopes to solve many of America's child obesity problems. They believe that because children spend most of their time at school, that is where the problem originates. They also believe that's where it can be solved. However, the new regulations seem to be too strict. Any food products with sugar as the first ingredient on the list is immediately eliminated. Treats whose amounts of fat or calories that reach past a certain limit are prohibited. Schools shouldn't ban junk food because doing so could cause financial issues, not all unhealthy food exposed to children come from schools, and won’t help students make healthy decisions.
First, preparing school lunches that meet these food regulations has proven to be expensive. Sandra Ford states in Mary Clare's article, New Rules Make School a Junk Food-Free Zone, "The new meal pattern requirements have significantly increased the expense of preparing school meals." She predicted that because of these health regulations, her school district could lose up to $975,000. Most lunchrooms have the "a la carte" lines that sell other food, often unhealthy, but favored by the students. The new regulations would knock out most of the items in these lines, causing both financial and support problems. If these new laws were to be put into full action, we would find more problems than solutions.

Secondly, most of the unhealthy food children are exposed to don't come from school, but outside sources. In many areas, schools have already banned drinks with high sugar content. According to Scholastic's article, Should Schools Ban Soda, "Regardless of the [new rules], students still purchased sugar-sweetened drinks outside of school. The study found that about 85 percent of students reported consuming sugary beverages at least once a week."  The bans against sugary drinks had no effect on the student's unhealthy diet. They found a new source and continued to be unhealthy. If the new laws were to be put into place, we would get a similar result.

Finally, restricting access to unhealthy foods won't teach students how to make healthy choices. Limiting what students are allowed to eat at school won’t teach them the importance of good health, but will simply force them to find a new source to the food they love. John Dively stated in his scholastic news article, Should States Ban Junk Food In Schools, “An across-the-board junk-food ban does not teach young people how to make healthy choices; it simply removes some of their options.” He also stated that “improving what we teach about nutrition and requiring more physical activity,” would be a better way to solve this issue. If we don’t teach children the importance of good health and physical fitness, they won’t understand the reason behind banning junk food.

While banning unhealthy foods from schools might solve some obesity issues, it leaves everyone else feeling punished for the choices of their peers. Studies show that 18 percent of American children are considered obese. In order to help these children, 82 percent of Americans are forced to go along with the laws, even though they don’t need to.  We need to look at the situation from all perspectives before we make any moves.
In conclusion, banning unhealthy food from schools won’t make a positive influence because doing so could cause financial issues, not all unhealthy food given to children come from schools, and won’t help students make healthy decisions. If we want to help the ever-growing problem of child obesity, we to focus on  teaching students how to make healthy choices and how to remain physically active.

January Ski Trip

One day, Jim Jim went skiing with some friends up at Brian Head. When they got their, they went and got all of their ski clothes on and got their skis. When they got them they went over to where the small hills were to get warmed up. When Jim Jim went down the first hill he didn't do very well and wrecked. Then his friends laughed at Jim Jim because they thought he was worth dirt because he couldn't even make it down the first hill without crashing. When he went down on the smaller hill he ran into some kid that was super good at skiing who would eventually become the worlds greatest skier. When he crashed the little kid was way mad, like, really mad, so the kid hit Jim Jim in the leg with his skis and split his femur in half. Now Jim Jim was really mad but told himself it was okay and decided to ski some more despite his split femur. When he kept on going and crashing he found that his femur hurt and decided to ignore it. When he finally made it down the first hill without crashing, he thought he was good enough for the slope only made for Olympians. The only way to make it up the hill was the ski lift. Jim Jim thought it was fun until he stuck in the middle of the lift when it broke down, three hours had passed and he hadn't moved at all, he decided to hop off even though it was a forty foot drop and he had a broken femur. When he landed and injured himself he got right back up on the skis and walked the way up the the hardest run.

When he finally made it up, he discovered the ski lift started working again and the kid he ran into earlier punched him in the gut and Jim Jim threw up on the little kid. The kid decided to walk away because he didn't want anymore vomit on him. After a few more hours Jim Jim finally made it up to the top. When he was beginning to go he was doing okay, then the hard part came, the hill went 92 degrees for 80 feet. Jim Jim thought it was fine and went down anyway. When he tried to do it and he wasn't on the ground he was very happy because he thought he was good at ski jumping, but when he landed, he hit so hard that it started an avalanche which destroyed the hole resort and covering everyone their. When Jim Jim dug his way out of the snow he saw his friends. When he went up to talk to them they broke Jim Jim's other femur and threw him in a huge hole they made that was impossible to get out of. Then Jim Jim's friends drove off in Jim Jim's Lamborghini because before they threw him in the hole they said that they would go get help and they needed his keys, sadly he had been so gullible that he actually believed them.

Several months had passed and Jim Jim's femurs had gotten worse, his friends stole his Lamborghini and he was still stuck in the snow hole.

Don't Eat Me I'm A Lemon

Don't Eat Me I'm A Lemon
Part 1

Mr. Eraser was still in the old monopoly box from "the time of the faucets" as people called it. In 4200 a man named Mr. Dude saved the Earth from the faucet company. Mr. Eraser was Mr. Dude's partner in the journey to center of the Earth. It was the year 23065 now, and things have changed. The candy wrappers that fell out from the sky after reaching absolute zero were actually a bunch of space cash that was apparently worth 'tree fitty' ($3.50) each. By then most of the world realized that Mr. Dude was actually the Loch Ness Monster. The conspiracy that Pluto was a dwarf planet was proven false, and that it was actually huge and the center of the solar system. The Earth had only one moon now do to the harsh weather in northern Europe. the 17 other moons went to the Andromeda Galaxy on the planet Pertater. Starve Jobberman officially made the Applez company the best zPhonez company on the entire sun. But biggest of all, faucets were now exactly 67*17*12*3 times better than in the year 41004. Mr. Eraser, may be a monopoly 10 eraser bill, but he still had more fun than the average American, well, mostly because they were all dead. Mr. Eraser had been waiting 300 years to be let out of his box because he didn't really feel like to get out himself, but somewhere within 3 years, things are about to change.

Mr. Eraser started reading "Don't Eat Me I'm A Lemon" when he heard a weird noise. Years before the monopoly box he was in was moved a couple pillows to the left because Canada was the only country in the world. The change in position made the monopoly box very unnoticed. He rarely hears anything other than the constant mewling of kittens, which is an awesome sound. The kittens there had no idea that there was anything inside the monopoly box, so they wouldn't be making the strange sound. No one goes inside the cup of beans anymore because the magic chair leg was thought to still be with Mr. Dude. Out of nowhere the box opened up and a Canadian cat with a pickle hat loomed over Mr. Eraser.
“Herro, my name is Mr. Kitty, and I just got done reading ‘Don’t Eat Me I’m A Lemon’ and it said I was supposed to come here at this time.”
“Canadian cats with pickle hats. That is cool.” Said Mr. Eraser. “Thanks for opening the box.”
“You know all you had to do was open the lid.”
“I didn’t feel like opening it. Also, how did you get the magic chair leg to get into the cup of beans.”
“You gave it to me.” meowed Mr. Kitty. “It’s a long story and this is where it starts.”

Seth M. January post -Thoughts-

                                                                 Thoughts

Your thoughts are what you think
But what you think is what you thought
You can think of things right now
Right here on the spot

Because if you are thinking
Or you think what you once thought
Then you might not be seeing
All the things you've got

For in your mind you do not see
But you do, do you not
Because your mind is a mystery
As you think, the things you've  thought

But in your mind lies creativity
It lies in every thought
And while you think of things once thought
Why don't you think, of all you've got

Should Junk Food Be Banned?
Do you think that junk food should be banned from school vending machines? Schools selling junk food contributes to all of the people that are obese. Junk food should be banned from schools because, first, not eating healthy at a young age can cause permanent damage, second, many people are obese and are becoming obese as well.

First, not eating healthy at a young age can cause permanent damage. When you are young and you are growing how you eats has a huge toll on your health as you get older. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” poor eating habits developed at an early age lead to a lifetime of real health consequences”. Some of the health consequences of poor eating habits are diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Also according to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” school is where children spend most of their time, and it is where we lay the foundation for healthy habits”. If kids are spending the majority of their day in school and schools are selling junk food, but schools should be selling healthy food because that is where the kids are most of the day.

Second, many people are obese and are becoming obese as well. With schools selling junk food that increases the kids chance of becoming obese because they spend most of their day in school. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” sixty million adults (20 percent of the population) are obese. Nearly 300,000 people die each year from complications associated with being obese or overweight”. All of those people that are obese have a chance of getting diabetes and of getting heart disease from obesity. Also according to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food in Schools” It has always been the role of the government to help solve problems including health issues, obesity. So as a government and as a society we have the responsibility to do all we can to prevent obesity and by promoting healthy foods.

Though it is the students choice of what they want to eat and buy. According to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food” improving what we teach about nutrition and requiring more physical activity are better ways to approach obesity than imposing statewide junk-food bans. But the students shouldn’t have an option to buy junk food in the first place. Also according to the article “Should States Ban Junk Food” obesity is a health epidemic across our country, and we have a responsibility as a society to do all we can to promote good nutrition and healthy eating”. Which can only be achieved by banning junk food in schools.

In conclusion junk food should be banned from schools because not eating healthy at a young age can cause permanent damage, and many people are obese and are becoming obese as well. When you’re young what you eat has a huge toll on your health as you grow up. And kids spend most of their time at school so that should be the place where kids get healthy nutritious food.
